IN THE COMMUNITY

ISSF is a volunteer-driven organization with an aim to build bridges of mutual understanding and respect with people of various traditions and faiths. We are an intrinsic part of the fabric that makes up American society and we aim to enrich its values with our own and be enriched by its tradition and values in return.

The Islamic Society wishes Cardinal Levada all the best and we thank him for his friendship and trust.

Open House

Once a year we invite our colleagues, friends, and neighbors to come to our Mosque to learn more about Islam. In the past two years, we hosted more than 100 guests per event. After the tragedy of 911, there was a surge of interest in learning about Islam and these open houses have worked well in eliminating common stereotypes about Islam and Muslims. Many of the guests that visit us have never met Muslims before or visited a mosque. Open houses are not only educational but also fun and memorable. If you want to be invited to our next open house please send an email with your contact info to info@islamsf.net.

Presentations on Islam

Over the past few years, ISSF has had the pleasure of sending speakers to various places of worship. We've spoken to diverse audiences from school children to Senators, Congress Men and Women, Governors, Mayors and Bishops.

We usually tailor our presentations to the level of audience knowledge or familiarity of Islam. To request a speaker please send an email with your contact information to info@islamsf.net and we will try to get back to you within two next business days.

We are always pleased to open the doors of our mosque Masjid Darassalam to anyone who is interested. We've hosted individuals, students, and groups from churches and labor organizations. Typically, we?ll open with a brief presentation about Islam followed by Q&A, observation of the prayer (and Sermon if it's on a Friday) and close with a tour of the facilities. To request a mosque tour please send an email with details about yourself and the people that will be accompanying you to commliason@islamsf.com.

Food Bank

On a monthly basis ISSF volunteers participate in work at local non-profits such as the San Francisco Food Bank, Project Open Hand and St Anthonys - efforts that go directly to helping other members of our community. For more information, or to be put on our volunteers mailing list please fill out the form on the Contact Us page.

Annually, around Thanksgiving ISSF volunteers collect dried and non-perishable food and work with the Glide Memorial Church Charitable Foundation donating the food to their soup kitchen. If your organization or community event could benefit from the efforts and involvement of ISSF volunteers please contact us. Send an email to info@islamsf.net.
